Amu wants party forums to decide on future policies

Awami League presidium member Amir Hossain Amu said Wednesday the party working committee and the council would decide on its future policies, according to UNB/bdnews24.com.
Returning from Singapore after medical treatment, Amu said Awami League is a democratic party and is committed to establishing inner democracy and transparency through reforms.
"Politics will control politics, neither muscle power nor black money," he said, adding that the party would also be made accountable to the people to ensure an accountable government.
Amu also said that with the lifting of ban on political activities, the Awami League central working committee would discuss inner-party reforms as well as electoral reforms proposed by the Election Commission.
"If necessary, the party council could be convened to approve the reforms," he said.
When asked about his opinion about AL chief Sheikh Hasina's reported idea of excluding above 60-year-old leaders from leadership, Amu said there is no such instance in any political party anywhere in the world.
"The leader (Hasina) is also 60. She too will have to go to the advisory council if the proposal is implemented. She can put forward such proposal only when she decides to quit politics," Amu said.
"Still, the matter could be discussed in the party forum," he said.
Amu went hard against his party chief Sheikh Hasina for some speeches, which he said, had harmed herself and the party, and angered the interim government.
The AL leader said the reforms of political parties were now the demand of the time and claimed that the Awami League had first come up with the reform proposal.
