Annisul elected FBCCI president

Annisul Huq was unanimously elected Wednesday president of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) by the board of directors for the 2007-09 term.
Annis, who replaces Mir Nasir Hossain, is the 19th FBCCI president.
He will take over the charge of the apex trade body March 24 next.
Ali Ashraf, Chairman of the FBCCI election board, said Annis takes the charge of the FBCCI on the day provided there is no appeal filed against his victory by 4:00 pm today (Thursday ).
"As per the election schedule, Annis will take the charge March 24 next from the FBCCI Administrator Syed Manzur Elahi," he said.
The directors Wednesday also elected Abul Kasem Ahmed of Tangail Chamber of Commerce and Industry as senior vice president and Abu Alam Chowdhury of Bangladesh Crafts and Giftware Exporters Association as vice president of the apex trade body.
The board of directors numbering 38 chose their leaders for running the FBCCI at a board meeting held at its board room Wednesday.
Chairman of the FBCCI election board Ali Ashraf presided over the meeting.
Earlier, MA Rouf Chowdhury, whose panel lost in the election, dramatically proposed Annis's name as the president of the apex trade body.
Annis, the newly elected FBCCI chief, told the reporters that he and his newly elected colleagues would make their best efforts to ease the prices of the essential commodities.
"We would like to put our utmost efforts to rein in the price hike of the essential items," he told the reporters.
He also said: "We have to work for our economy and welfare of the people."
Newly elected senior vice president Abul Kasem Ahmed said FBCCI must play a role in promoting the investment and enhance the business growth.
"Our main task is to promote the country's investment and give further impetus to the business activities," he said.
Newly elected vice president Abu Alam Chowdhury said FBCCI must work for easing the prices of the essential commodities.
"We will have to work for stabilising the prices of the essential items as the common people have been suffering a lot," he added.
MA Rouf Chowdhury said all colleagues should work for the interest of the business community and the economy.
