The FE from Sunday has been serialising on Page-6 a 10,000-word transcript of an interview of M. Syeduzzaman conducted by the authors -- John P. Lewis, Richard Webb and Devesh Kapur -- of the World Bank's fiftieth anniversary history, entitled The World Bank:  Its First Half Century. It was published by Washington-based Brookings Institution Press in 1997.
The authors interviewed on November 19, 1991 in Dhaka Mr. Syeduzzaman who worked in the Finance Department in the then East Pakistan, the Central Government of the then Pakistan -- first, in the External Resources Division (ERD) and then in the Ministry of Commerce, and finally, in the Finance Ministry.
On return to Bangladesh, Mr. Syeduzzaman started as Secretary Economic Affairs Division (EAD), Planning Commission, and the Ministry of Planning. Throughout his career he had to work with the World Bank, and other multilateral and bilateral donors/partners.
Mr. Syeduzzaman has been playing in his long life of 83 years important roles in the service of society.
The World Bank interview, however, focuses on his contribution in the field of economic planning, specially multilateral and bilateral negotiations, during the formative stage of Bangladesh.  It released the transcript of the interview from its Archives in 2016 and sent a copy to Mr. Syeduzzaman.
The transcript has been made available exclusively to the FE for publication.
