CHATTOGRAM, June 14: Another ship, named ‘MV GCL Paradip’, carrying coal berthed at the Matarbari deep-sea port on Wednesday.
The Panama flag carrier, loaded with 64,770 tonnes of coal, came from Tarhan port of Indonesia, confirmed Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) Captain Ataul Hakim Siddique, also manager of the Matarbari Port Development Project.
The coal will be used at the 1,200 MW Matarbari ultra super critical coal-fired power project being implemented by the Coal Power Generation Company Bangladesh Limited, said Mr Siddique.
GCL Paradip is one of the biggest ships ever berthed at the Matarbari jetty – this vessel is 230 metres long with a draft of 12.5 metres, he added.
A total of four shipments carrying 250,000 tonnes of coal have arrived at the port over the last couple of months for the power plant.
