Activists of different organisations staged demonstrations on the road in front of the Jatiya Sangsad on Saturday, protesting the growing incidents of rape and demanding the toughest punishment to rapists, reports UNB.

The protesters were chanting various slogans condemning the 'impunity of rapists' and demanding prompt action to bring the rapists to book.

They were holding placards inscribed with: "Stop protecting rapists", "Mukti chai, Rokkha Noi".

In Sunamganj, police in a drive arrested the prime suspect in a case, filed over the reported rape of a young woman after torturing her father in Jagannathpur upazila of Sunamganj district, from Sarail upazila in Brahmanbaria district on Friday. The arrestee was identified as Shamim Ahmed, a suspected Yaba trader of Gotgaon village in Sunamganj.

In Gazipur, members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested a man who along with his friends allegedly gang raped a seventh grader in Salna area of Gazipur early on Saturday.
