Army is ready to face any situation arising out of the current flood in cooperation with the civil administration, a senior military official said in the city Friday, reports UNB.
Briefing reporters at the army headquarters monitoring cell, Firoz Rahim, GSO Grade-1, said the army is working with the civil administration from July 23 and joined the rescue and rehabilitation of flood victims in different areas at the instruction of the Chief of the Army Staff.
He said monitoring cells have been set up at the army headquarters and divisional headquarters to coordinate their works relating to flood across the country.
Rahim said excess rainfalls and opening of dams across the frontier have caused the flood situation in different districts of the country.
He said the floodwater has damaged the embankment on the Gumti river and also threatened flood protection dams at different places.
"Army is already on the ground…We're ready to face any situation arising out of flood," he said.
Director Military Operations Humayun Bakhtiar PSC were, among others, present at the briefing.
The monitoring cells on flood are also working in the Chief Adviser's office and the office of the Armed Forces Division.
