A group of unknown assailants killed three people-two men and a woman-entering a house at Moghbazar in the city on Thursday night, report agencies.
Police said the shooting took place around 8:30pm at a house at 78, Sonalibagh in the Chan Bakery Lane near Maghbazar's Wireless Gate.
The victims were identified as Bristi Akhter (32), Belal Hossain (22) and Munna (20). Another identified as Hridoy was injured.
Ramma police station officer-in-charge Mashiur Rahman said: "Seven to eight people including Kala Babu entered the house and opened fire indiscriminately, leaving four injured. They were rushed to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where the doctors declared three of them dead."
UNB adds: Assistant police commissioner (Ramna Zone) Shibly Noman, quoting locals, said either any land-related conflict or extortion might be the reason behind the killing.
