Assailants kill engineer’s wife, uncle in city

Assailants killed a housewife and her maternal uncle-in-law in a flat in the capital's Pallabi area in broad daylight Wednesday, police said.

Two suspects, including the caretaker of the multistoried apartment house, were picked up by the police for interrogation over the double murder.

The sensational killings took place on the fourth floor of the building at road number 9 of the area. The apartment was rented by deputy assistant engineer of Dhaka Electric Supply Company Limited (DESCO) Zahidul Islam.

The victims were identified by police as Sweety Akhter, 24, wife of Zahidul Islam, and her uncle-in-law Aminul Islam, 45.

When contacted, Sub-Inspector of Pallabi Police Station Bahauddin Babla said two young men riding a motorbike came in at about 2:25pm. They entered the building by identifying themselves as relatives of the family residing in an apartment on the fourth floor.
