Attorney Gen Mahbubey Alam no more

Attorney General Mahbubey Alam passed away at 7.25 pm on Sunday following a long fight with the novel coronavirus.
He was 71.
He breathed his last at Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka where he was under treatment.
His son Sumon Mahbub confirmed the news. He posted a status on his facebook wall saying "My father Attorney General Mahbubey Alam passed away at 07:25 pm".
His son-in-law Sheikh Mohammad Reajul Hoque citing the doctors at the Combined Military Hospital earlier on Sunday evening said the Attorney General's condition was critical. "The doctors are trying," said Reajul, who is also a Supreme Court lawyer.
President Md Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed their deep condolence over the death of Mahbubey Alam.
Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain and Law Minister Anisul Huq also expressed their deep condolence over his death.
Mahbubey Alam was the chief legal officer of the state for the longest time in the history of Bangladesh. He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.
He was hospitalized with a high temperature on September 4 and later tested positive for COVID-19. He had remained in hospital care ever since. He was transferred to the ICU on September 18 after his condition had deteriorated.
The law minister had earlier said Alam had a rapid pulse. He had the problem earlier but never informed the doctors about it, Anisul had said. The minister had also said the last coronavirus test on Alam had come back negative.
Mahbubey Alam had been the Attorney General of the country since 2009. A former president of the Supreme Court Bar Association, he began practising law in 1975.
Mahbubey Alam was born on February 17, 1949 in the village of Mouchhamandra at Lauhajang upazila of Munshiganj district.
He obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree with Honors in Political Science and Master of Arts in Public Administration from the University of Dhaka in the year 1968 & 1969 respectively. He had his LLB degree from the same university in 1972.
