Ban on public assembly in front of Proshika Bhaban

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) imposed ban on any kind of meeting, rally and procession in front of "Proshika Bhaban" and adjoining area in Pallabi from 6:00 pm Wednesday until further instruction. Official sources said DMP Commissioner AKM Shahidul Haq imposed the ban under sections 28 and 29 of DMP Act (Act-III/76). There is a longstanding dispute over control of "Proshika", a leading NGO in the country, between former chairman Dr Kazi Faruque Ahmed and the present governing body. On a number of occasions in last several months, officers and employees of rival groups locked into altercation, chase and counter-chase on the road in front of Proshika Bhaban creating panic among the people in the area. — UNB
