The 95th birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman will be celebrated today (Tuesday) with due respect and festivity, reports UNB.

The day is a public holiday.
On March 17, 1920, Bangladesh's architect was born in remote village Tungipara in Gopalganj district, then subdivision of Faridpur district.
Throughout his life of leadership, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman prepared the people of present-day Bangladesh to fight against exploitation and repression, first against the British colonial power, and then the Pakistani rulers that finally culminated in independent Bangladesh through nine months of Liberation War in 1971.
On the fateful night of August 15, 1975, the great leader of the land was assassinated along with most members of his family by an army cabal.
On the eve of Bangabandhu's birth anniversary, President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have issued separate messages marking the day.
In his message, the President said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is the symbol of independence and the forerunner of freedom of down-trodden and oppressed people of the world.
"We have to build our young generation with the sense of noble qualities so that they can materialise Bangabandhu's dream of transforming the country into Sonar Bangla (Golden Bengal). Let us put our sincere endeavour to flourish the great virtues and intrinsic values of our children from their very childhood," the President said.
The Prime Minister in her message said Father of the Nation was not only the leader of Bangalees but also a forerunner in realising the rights of oppressed and deprived masses of the world.
"When Bangabandhu devoted himself to rebuild the country, the anti-liberation and reactionary forces brutally killed Bangabandhu along with the most of his family members on August 15 in 1975 to halt the spirit of the liberation war and development spree," she added.
The President and the Prime Minister will pay homage to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by placing wreaths at his grave at Tungipara marking his 95th birth anniversary at 10 am.
