Bangladesh have clinched their first Test victory this year beating Zimbabwe by three wickets on the third day of the first Test, report agencies.
All-round performance by young Taijul Islam guided Bangladesh to take 1-0 lead in the three-match Bashundhara Cement Test series.
Taijul Islam pulled a short delivery towards backward square leg boundary to bring up the winning runs at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur Monday.
Bangladesh now lead the three-match series 1-0. The second Test is scheduled for Nov 3 at the Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna.
Taijul Islam returned the best bowling figure in the history of Bangladesh cricket grabbing 8 wickets for 39 runs in 16.5 overs to dismiss Zimbabwe cheaply for 114 runs in the second innings and later scored unbeaten 15 runs at the crucial moment with the match-winning boundary off Elton Chigumbura.
The previous best bowling figure for Bangladesh was 7 for 36 by Shakib Al Hasan against New Zealand in Chittgaong in 2008.
A 23-year-old from Natore, Taijul, who also scored 19 runs and took one wicket in the first innings, helped Bangladesh to break the 14-match losing streak, was eventually adjudged the man of the match.
With the day's feat, Bangladesh tasted the 3rd test victory against Zimbabwe, and the first Test victory in 2014, but still going winless during the year in ODI format.
On the 3rd day on Monday, Zimbabwe (1st innings 240 runs) resumed the second innings with 5 for no loss and were dismissed cheaply for 114 runs in 35.5 overs.
Skipper Brendan Taylor scored team highest not out 45 runs off 60 balls with eight fours while Sikandar Raza (25), Vusi Sibanda (14), Craig Ervine (10) and Regis Chakabva (10) were the other double digit scorers for the visitors.
Apart from Taijul Islam's 8/39, pacer Shahadat Hossain and all rounder Shakib Al Hasan took one wicket each for 25 and 44 runs respectively.
Chasing an easy 101 runs to win, Bangladesh made a disastrous start as they lost three top order batsmen-Tamim Iqbal, Shamsur Rahman and Mominul Haque - for duck in 4.1 overs, which happened only twice earlier in Tests.
