Bangobandhu's anniversary of death today

The 32nd martyrdom anniversary of Bangobandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman will be observed in the country today (Wednesday) with due respect and solemnity, reports BSS.
On this day in 1975, Bangobandhu along with most of his family members was brutally assassinated at his No. 32 Dhanmondi residence in the city.
President Iajuddin Ahmed and Chief Adviser Fakhruddin Ahmed are to visit Tungipara in Gopalganj in the morning today to pay homage to the late leader who was instrumental in achieving the country's independence.
They will formally place wreaths at the Mazar of Bangobandhu and offer fateha and special munajat for his eternal peace.
Because of the state of emergency, Bangladesh Awami League (AL) will observe the day in a limited manner.
The day's programmes will start by placing wreaths at the portrait of Bangobandhu in front of Bangobandhu Museum at Dhanmondi here at 8:00 am, said a party release Tuesday.
Other programmes of the day include placing wreaths at the Banani graveyard of others who were killed on the fateful night of August 15 and holding milad mahfil and offering special prayers at Banani Mosque at 8.30 am.
Milad mahfil and special prayers will also be held at all mosques and other places of worship across the country at 1.30 pm. Feeding of the destitute and flood-hit people is also a part of the programmes.
In Tungipara, AL central leader Abdul Latif Siddiqui and Industries and Commerce Secretary Faruk Khan will place wreaths at the Mazar of Bangobandhu on behalf of the party. They will also offer fateha and special prayers there.
Meanwhile, AL Acting President Zillur Rahman and Acting General Secretary Mukul Bose called upon all party leaders and workers and people of all walks of life to observe the day with due solemnity.
Besides, various socio-cultural and political organisations have drawn up separate programmes to observe the day in a befitting manner.
