Bank account info of 26 politicians, ex-MPs sought

The National board of Revenue (NBR) Thursday sought bank account information of 26 politicians and former member of Parliaments (MPs) and their family members, banking source said.
The Central Intelligence cell (CIC) of the board issued letters asking all the banks and non-banking financial institutions (NBFIs) to furnish the necessary information of those bank accounts within the second week of August., they added.
The CIC sought information on the bank accounts of some politicians including MP of BNP in Rajshahi Nadim Mostofa, MP of Jamat-e Islam Abdullah Md Taher, G.K Gaus of Habiganj, Redwan Ahmed LDP leader, Monirul Huq Sakku of BNP Comilla, Shahadat Akbar of BNP and their family members.
The CIC, in the letter, asked the banks and NBFIs to provide bank details of their current accounts, joint accounts, wealth statements, fixed deposit term, loan account, Foreign accounts and credit cards information.
It sought information of the bank accounts from July 1, 2001 under section 113-F.
The CIC in the letter said, if the banks and NBFIs failed to provide necessary information without any valid reason the NBR will penalize them Tk 25,000 at a time and Tk 500 of each day under 124 (2).
