The central bank has asked the commercial banks to make sure cash is available round-the-clock at all ATMs (Automated Teller Machine) and POS (Point of Sale) points during the Eid holiday.

"We've taken measures to ensure the electronic transactions particularly during the Eid-ul-Fitr vacation," a senior official of the Bangladesh Bank (BB) told the FE.

He also said such transactions normally increase significantly during the weekend and other holidays.

The scheduled banks will remain closed from July 28 to July 30 on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, the greatest religious festival for Muslims.

"We've already asked the banks to take adequate security measures at their ATM booths for avoiding any unwanted incident," the banker noted.

The central bank issued a circular to this effect Sunday.

The banks have been asked to make available cash at ATM booths all time.

Currently, more than 5,000 ATM booths are now in operation across the country.  Dutch-Bangla Bank Limited (DBBL) alone operates nearly 2,900 of them.

Besides, the DBBL operates around 500 'Fast Track', each having at least 4 ATM machines.

"We're well-prepared to meet the growing demand for cash during the Eid vacation," Shahazada Basunia, vice-president (public relations) of the DBBL, told the FE.

The banks must display notice in front of the closed or inoperative ATM booths, according to the circular.

Besides, if the services of ATM and POS of any bank remained closed for unavoidable circumstances, they must have to inform the clients instantly.
