Bangladesh's GDP (gross domestic product) has been projected to be 5.82 per cent for the current fiscal year.
According the provisional figures of the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), the size of the country's GDP in the current prices has been estimated at Tk 50.80 trillion or US$449 billion for FY 2023-24 as against nearly Tk44.91 trillion or $452 billion in the FY 2022-23.
Initially, the government set the country GDP growth target at 7.5 per cent for the current fiscal, it was recently revised downward to 6.5 per cent.
The BBS data also estimated the country's per capita income at Tk 3,06,144 or US$2784 for FY 2023-24.
The per capita income was Tk 2,73,360 or $2749 in the FY2022-23, according to the BBS data, which was released on Thursday.
According to the BBS, except for the services sector, the growth of agriculture and industrial sectors has been projected downward for the current fiscal in comparison with that of the previous fiscal.
The growth of the country's agriculture sector has been projected at 3.21 per cent in constant prices according to the base year (FY 2015-16) and that of industrial sector at 6.66 per cent for the current fiscal compared to that of 3.37 per cent and 8.37 per cent respectively in the FY 2022-23.
On the other hand, the country's services sector is expected to grow at the rate of 5.80 per cent in the FY 2023-24 compared to 5.37 per cent in the previous fiscal.
However, the share of agriculture sector to the GDP is likely to decline marginally to 11.37 per cent in the current fiscal from that of 11.38 per cent in the previous fiscal while that industrial sector has been projected to increase at 35.90 per cent from 35.77 per cent.
On the other hand, the share of services sector to GDP is estimated to be 52.72 per cent in the FY 2023-24, slightly down from 52.85 per cent in the FY 2022-23, the provisional figures showed.
