BCS ICT fair ends

The BCS ICT World, an annual gala exposition of computers and its accessories, ended in the city Friday with high hopes as a huge number of people thronged the fair venue on the last day which coincided with the weekly holiday, reports BSS.
Bangladesh Computer Samity (BCS) in cooperation with ICT Business Promotion Council under the Commerce Ministry organised the five-day fair at Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre.
The slogan of the BCS ICT World was `Towards Digital Bangladesh.'
Education and Commerce Adviser Dr Hossain Zillur Rahman was the chief guest at the concluding day of the fair.
With the BCS President Mustafa Jabbar in the chair, the function was addressed, among others, by Vice-Chancellor of BUET Dr ANM Shafiullah, Joint Secretary of Commerce Ministry Golam Mohiuddin and Co-Convenor of the fair Shahid Ul Munir.
Dr Hossain Zillur called upon all to work unitedly for building a digital Bangladesh by 2021.
Placing emphasis on computer education side by side with the regular curriculum, the adviser said more ICT-empowered people will have to be created in the interest of the development of the sector.
He urged the private organisations engaged in the sector to provide better service for their customers.
Mustafa Jabbar called for taking initiatives to hand over a computer to every child of the country and demanded fixation of broadband internet charge at Tk 200.
A total of 173 stalls were set up by 69 organisations at the fair showcasing different brands of computers and its accessories within the buyers' capacity.
Both brand and cloned PCs, LCD monitor, mouse, keyboard, CD, speaker, DVD, CD ROM drive, calling card, internet card, mouse pad, pen drive, memory card, printer and scanner were available at cost-effective prices.
Besides computer products, mobile phone and its accessories, MP-3, MP-4 and digital camera were displayed at the show.
Shahid Ul Munir, Chairman of the Media Sub-Committee, said the organisers arranged seminar, symposium, and free internet browsing, IPTV and gaming to give the fair a splendid look.
He said about 50,000 people, mostly students, visited the fair, inaugurated by Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser for Science and ICT Manik Lal Samaddar on November 17.
