BD-born UK citizen found dead in city

A Bangladeshi-born UK citizen was found dead at his house in the capital's Banani area on Friday morning, police said.

The victim was identified as Mezbah Uddin (72), who has been living in the UK for the last 40 years along with his family members.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Banani Police Station Bhuiyan Mahbub Hossain confirmed the incident.

He said they recovered the body from his flat (B/5, house-91 and road-25/A) at about 10:30am after breaking its door.

The body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for autopsy.

Sub-Inspector (SI) Jahangir Alam Khan, who was present during the recovery, said the body was found in a pool of blood at his bedroom. Earlier, his relatives were trying to reach him through mobile phone since Thursday midnight, but received no answer.

"We found his blood-smeared body without any sign of stabbing or shooting in it. So, the reasons behind his death are yet to be ascertained."

Quoting the victim's cousin Jamil Uddin he said Mezbah Uddin was working at a bank in the UK before retirement, and then got involved with an NGO (non-governmental organisation) that operates a school in a northern district. He came to Bangladesh on November 3rd to look after activities of the school.

Mezbah was married to a Sri Lankan citizen, and they have two daughters.
