BD records 235 more deaths, 15,776 cases

Bangladesh reported 235 more deaths from Covid-19 and 15,776 new cases on Tuesday as the surge in viral infections continues almost unabated countrywide.

Of the latest toll, highest deaths were recorded at 73 in Dhaka division, followed by Chattogram at 65, Khulna at 32, Rajshahi at two, Sylhet, Mymensingh and Rangpur divisions at 12 each and Barishal at eight.

On the other hand, division-wise new daily cases maintained more or less Monday's trends, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

With the latest daily count, total fatalities from Covid-19 and total caseload reached 21,397 and over 1.29 million respectively until Tuesday since the detection of coronavirus here in March 2020.

A total of 55,284 samples, including the antigen-based rapid ones, were tested while 57,297 samples were collected during the past 24-hour reporting time.

However, the Covid-19 test positivity rate slightly decreased to 28.54 per cent from the previous day's 29.91 per cent.

A total of 16,297 more people recovered from the coronavirus disease in the country during the last 24-hour reporting time, disclosed a DGHS press release.

The rate of recovery was 86.80 per cent on the day.

On the other hand, the rate of fatalities from the deadly disease remained static at 1.65 per cent.

Meanwhile, 216,534 and 10,931 more people received the first and second doses of Sinopharm vaccine respectively the same day.

The government administered 82,054 first doses of Moderna vaccine and 11,898 second doses of AstraZeneca-Covishield vaccine across the country on Tuesday.
