BDR, BSF agree to reinforce joint efforts

The frontier forces of Bangladesh and India agreed to strengthen joint efforts to prevent trans-border crimes like illegal movements across the border, trafficking in women and children, drugs smuggling and gunrunning, reports UNB.
The agreement was reached at the 29th DG-level 'Border Coordination Conference' between the Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) and the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) held in New Delhi from March 30 to April 1.
A joint statement issued after the meeting said in pursuance of the decision taken at the 9th home secretary-level talks held in Dhaka on Aug 29-31, 2008 about joint visits to a few vulnerable stretches, where fencing was not feasible and riverine areas of the border, both sides had stressed formulating a "Joint Border Management Plan" which would help reduce trans-border crime and strengthen border management.
