The High Court (HC) has ordered to form a committee to probe alleged involvement of law enforcers in the Narayanganj seven murders, report agencies.
An HC bench issues the suo-moto rule Monday, a day after one of the victim's relatives accused the RAB of taking Tk 60 million to carry out the abductions and murders.
The bench of justices Md Rezaul Haque and Gobinda Chandra Tagore issued the rule after Supreme Court lawyer Shamim Sarkar drew its attention over the media reports on the matter.
The court also specified who should be included in the seven-member strong committee.
The body should consist of two members each from the ministries of public administration, home and law headed by an additional secretary of the public administration ministry.
It also said the members should at least be at the rank of a deputy secretary.
The HC asked the committee to start work within seven days of the order and also asked the committee to update it about the progress of the probe.
It also ordered the Inspector General of Police to provide security to the eyewitnesses to the abduction.
The HC ordered to keep out RAB from the investigations in the wake of allegation against the force.
It also ordered the police's Crime Investigation Department (CID) to investigate the matter alongside the Detective Branch.
Meanwhile, the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) Monday formed a four-member committee to investigate the alleged involvement of its members in the recent abduction and killing of seven people.
"The probe panel has been constituted with Rab Additional Director General Aftab Uddin Ahmed as its head, and it'll submit its report as early as possible," Rab Director General Mokhlesur Rahman told UNB.
On Sunday (April 4), Narayanganj District Bar Association enforced a daylong hartal in Narayanganj protesting the abductions and killings and demanding immediate arrest of the perpetrators.  Another report adds, the Narayanganj district administration has revoked the licences of all 11 weapons belonging to Nur Hossain and his associates.
The Narayanganj Awami League leader is among the prime suspects in the abduction and murder of Councillor Nazrul Islam and six others.
Another report from Benapole adds: Law enforcers have been put on red alert along the Benapole border so that the suspected killers of Narayanganj panel mayor Nazrul Islam and six others cannot flee to India.
The immigration police, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and the forces at the Benapole port police station are on high alert to foil any attempt by the accused killers to leave Bangladesh territory, according to officials.
The accused mentioned in the FIR of the murder case are: Nur Hossain, a Narayanganj city Awami League leader and also a councilor, and his accomplices Yasin, Anwar, Amirul Islam, Hasnat and Iqbal Hossain, according to police.
