Benazir's Tk 100m Rupganj duplex house attached

The government has taken over the luxurious duplex house of former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed in Rupganj upazila of Narayanganj, reports UNB.

A team comprising Narayanganj district administration and the Anti-Corruption Commission's Narayanganj Integrated Office attached the house worth around Tk 100 million in line with a court order on Saturday afternoon.

Narayanganj Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Mahmudul Haque, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Md Shafiqul Alam, Rupganj Upazila Executive Officer Md Ahsan Mahmud Russell, Deputy Director of the Narayanganj Integrated Office of the Anti-Corruption Commission Moinul Hasan Rawshani and members of the law enforcing agencies were present during the drive.

ACC official Moinul Hasan said the house was built in 2022, and the former IGP used to visit and stay overnight there when he was in the country.

He said, for the sake of security, two dogs were kept along with a caretaker at  the bungalow.

Earlier on June 12, a Dhaka court ordered the attachment of property including the duplex house of the former IGP, following a petition submitted by the ACC.

Subsequently, the court appointed the Deputy Commissioner as the receiver to oversee the house.
