BNP reformists virtually rebutted their chairperson's comment by asserting that secretary general Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan did nothing against party constitution by unveiling the reform proposals that virtually showed Khaleda Zia the exit door, reports UNB.
"The party secretary general has announced the reform proposals in greater interest of the party, and by following the party constitution one hundred percent," BNP vice-chairman Hafizuddin Ahmed, one of the 'pro-reform' leaders under Bhuiyan's leadership, told reporters while coming out of the residence of Bhuiyan.
Another leader, Rezaul Karim, said, "Bhuiyan did nothing which can go against the party constitution and he would communicate with the party chairperson after completion of all preparatory work of the reforms."
Their remarks came hot on the heels of BNP chairperson and ex-PM Khaleda Zia's warning against any move, which can go against the party constitution, in holding council for bringing reforms in the party.
When reporters went to Bhuiyan's residence Tuesday to get his reply to Khaleda Zia's statement, the secretary general offered a smile and said, "Hafiz (sahib) will tell you later on."
