Biman reinstates suspended pilots

November 01, 2010 00:00:00

National flag carrier Biman has withdrawn suspension of its four pilots.
Zakiul Islam, Biman managing director, told bdnews24.com about their reinstatement.
According to a Biman order on October 26, four pilots, including the association's acting president and general secretary had been temporarily suspended.
As an immediate reaction, the Bangladesh Airlines Pilots Association (BAPA) went for a strike crippling the state-owned airlines.
On October 20, the 116-member BAPA gave a 24-hour ultimatum to Biman to meet their 5-point demands, including cancellation of Biman order to increase retirement age of pilots from 57 to 62 years.
The pilots also threatened not to carry out any duty beyond their contract with Biman if the demands were not met.
The pilots, however, being reprimanded by the prime minister, sought unconditional apology for going on strike during the hajj season and joined work on Saturday, bringing the four-day tussle with the state-owned Biman to an end.
