Bishwa Ijtema ends with Akheri Munajat

The second phase of the 49th Bishwa Ijtema ended with the Akheri Munajat (final prayers) seeking peace, unity and prosperity of the world's Muslim Ummah, reports BSS.
Hundreds of thousands of Muslim devotees thronged the banks of the Turag River at Tongi, on the outskirts of the capital, to attend the final prayers of the three-day programme.
Held in winter in every year, it is the second biggest Muslim congregation in the world after the holy Hajj.
New Delhi-based Surah member Maulana Md Zobairul Hasan conducted the 17-minute-long Akheri Munajat on Sunday.
The munajat began at 9-55am and ended at 10.12am.
As the Ijtema ground was full from the early hours, many devotees took their places on the roads.
Traffic on the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway leading to Tongi, had been stopped since Saturday midnight. Holiday was declared in educational institutions, offices and factories around the venue.
The first phase of this year's Bishwa Ijtema began on January 24---around 20,000 devotees from 132 countries of the world joined the holy programme.
Besides, several lakh Muslims from 32 districts joined the first phase of the Ijtema while devotees from 33 districts joined the second phase of the programme, said the organisers.
Tablig Jamaat sources said about 6,000 Jamaats will spread out all over the world from Ijtema ground this year. Around five to six thousand Jamaats usually travel to some 150 countries with the invitation of the Tablig Jamaat every year.
The Bishwa Ijtema will be held next year from January 9 to 11, 2015. Its second phase will commence after a four-day break-from January 16 and it will conclude with the Akheri Munajat on January 18. The dates were finalised last Wednesday.
