BNP has announced an agitation programme across the country except Dhaka and Chittagong metropolitan areas for February 26 protesting against power tariff hike, reports bdnews24.com.
BNP standing committee member Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain announced the demonstration programme at a press briefing at the party's Naya Paltan office Thursday.
Dr Mosharraf claimed that the prices of daily essentials would increase
due to power tariff hike, hitting hard the low-income people.
"So, we have decided to hold the programmes outside Dhaka and Chittagong metropolitan areas considering the ICC Cricket World Cup matches being played in Bangladesh," the BNP leader said.
The government on Feb 8 raised the power tariffs-both retail and bulk levels-with effect from this month.
