BNP, Jamaat seek one week time for party registration

Both Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and its political ally Jamaat-e-Islami Sunday formally asked the Election Commission (EC) to extend the timeframe for party registration by a week from the October 15 deadline, as they are going to hold pre-election decisive talks with the caretaker government at a terminal time, reports UNB.
A BNP delegation comprising party leaders Nazrul Islam Khan, Rezvi Ahmed, Nurul Kabir Shahin and Zainal Abedin handed over party letter to the Election Commission at 11:45am requesting the EC to extend the time.
Nazrul Islam Khan told reporters that BNP and Jamaat were scheduled to sit in dialogue with the caretaker government on October 14 to discuss some important issues, including the revised Representation of People's Order (RPO) and the party-registration rules, so it would be hard for them to apply by October 15.
"We've requested the EC to extend by seven days the time for applying for registration," he said
Replying to a question, he said it seemed that the EC would consider the matter as rational after hearing their proposal. "The law about the front organization is not rational," Nazrul Islam Khan said in reply to a question about a provision of the RPO that banishes front organizations of the political parties as part of the politico-electoral reforms done in the interim period.
A two-member Jamaat delegation comprising its leaders Jasim Uddin Sarker and Abdur Razzak handed over their party letter to the EC separately, at 11:30am, but with the same plea for extending party-registration time by a week.
