The tenure of BNP secretary general will also be same as of the chairperson's six years spreading over two terms, under the party-cleansing reforms kicked off by the rebels, report UNB
BNP Vice-chairman Hafizuddin Ahmed Thursday told the reporters on the latest stand after a meeting with BNP secretary general Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan who apprised him that the tenure of the chairperson and the secretary general would be equal in duration.
"There has been some confusion among BNP leaders and workers as the proposed reforms did not mention the tenure of the secretary general," he said.
Asked about the holding of the BNP council to push through the reform recipe, Hafiz said holding council is a gigantic task but added that the preparation was on to hold it. On completion of the preparation, they would seek permission from the government to hold the party council.
Politicians in all the major parties are now engrossed in carrying out reform of their parties or floating new parties as the caretaker government has launched a political clean-up drive against the backdrop of the recent political crisis that necessitated state of emergency to tackle the situation.
