The Bangladesh Nation-alist Party (BNP) has rejected the results of the eleventh parliamentary election and demanded fresh polls under a neutral government.

"I must say it categorically, we are rejecting the results of the just-concluded 11th parliamentary election," the party's Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir told the media on Monday.

Mr Fakhrul went on: "And we are asking for fresh polls under a neutral government as soon as possible".

He was briefing the media following a meeting of the party's policy-making National Standing Committee (NSC), held at its chairperson's office in the city's Gulshan area.

He alleged that the government manipulated the election through 'unfair use of the machinery under its control'.

The BNP's stance was announced a day after rejection of the polls results by the Jatiya Oikya Front (JOF).

Sources said BNP standing committee members reviewed the country's overall condition, discussed party agenda, and decided the next course of its actions.

BNP leaders Moudud Ahmed, Mirza Abbas, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan and Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, were present at the meeting, among others.
