BARISHAL, Feb 4 (UNB): BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman on Wednesday said women would be made self-reliant if his party is voted to power in the national election.
He said mothers and daughters would receive primary healthcare services at home without visiting hospitals for basic treatment, he said addressing a rally at Bell's Park in Barishal city.
Tarique Rahman also pledged a series of measures to support farmers, including the construction of cold storage facilities, to ensure fair prices for agricultural produce.
He said BNP would introduce an agriculture card to provide farmers with seeds and fertilisers according to their needs. Loans amounting to Tk 10,000 taken by farmers would be waived, he promised.
Tarique said industries would be set up using gas from Bhola, creating jobs for local people and alongside contributing to regional economic development.
BSS adds: Without naming any political party BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman said some leaders of the once 'secret organization' became new tyrants just like autocrats.
"Mothers and sisters of the country are not safe from them," he said.
The party once for its 'covert' identity now has emerged as new oppressors, he said at the election rally at Bells Park ground in Barishal city.
BNP Chairman said Bangladesh will run based on the people's verdict. People will elect a government on February 12 which will be accountable to them.
"I observe with immense pain and disgust that the leaders of that party are openly using extremely slanderous words against women. Those leaders and workers have no respect to mothers and sisters. They have no respect for human dignity," he observed.
Tarique Rahman pointed out the recent remarks of a leader of the 'covert' party in Comilla who told that they will be begging vote from people touching their feet until February 12, and after that it's will be a vice versa.
"What kind of people they are? How they treat people, their mentality has been exposed," Tarique said.
"If they are elected, life of the common people will be in complete misery. So, the covert force must be given a lesson, people must remain cautious about them," he said.
Tarique Rahman said the 'covert' party was always with the autocrat government. They are the other side of the same coin. They were with them in '71, '86, '96, and for the past 15 years."
Regarding the local problems of Barishal, Tarique Rahman said, "River erosion is the biggest problem in Barishal; embankments must be built. Many tasks remain unfinished; to complete those tasks, the people must take the right decision."
BSS adds: Later at a rally in Faridpur on the day, BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman announced that if his party forms government with the support of people in coming election, Faridpur division will be created.
Tarique Rahman said this while addressing the public rally at the Government Rajendra College ground in Faridpur as part of his election tour.
The BNP Chairman said that the BNP believes all state power originates from the people and BNP seeks to take responsibility for running the state with the belief.
Referring to the long-standing problem of river erosion in the Faridpur region, he said that if the BNP comes to power, effective solutions would be taken to protect the Padma and other rivers from erosion.
Since morning, leaders, activists and supporters from various upazilas of Faridpur and neighboring districts gathered at the rally venue. The rally ground and surrounding areas turned into a sea of people.
