A Dhaka court Sunday sent Awami League MP Abdur Rahman Bodi to jail in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in connection with the allegation of unusual wealth accumulation, reports UNB.
Metropolitan magistrate Maruf Hossain passed the order when Bodi surrendered before the court and sought bail.
On August 21, the ACC filed separate cases with Ramna Police Station accusing MP Bodi (Cox's Bazar-4) and two former state ministers—Abdul Mannan Khan and Mahbubur Rahman Talukder—of amassing wealth illegally.
As per the FIR, Abdur Rahman Bodi submitted his wealth statement to the ACC on February 23 mentioning his and his family's wealth worth about Tk 52 million.
Examining his income tax return, the ACC probe found that he acquired over Tk 160.7 million in last five years (2009-13) and earned illegal wealth worth nearly Tk 110 million.
Bodi in his wealth report also mentioned an additional amount of nearly Tk 20 million showing a higher price of his sold assets to make it legal.
