No explosive was found in the search conducted by RAB personnel at the Jatiya Press Club in the city Sunday after an anonymous caller's threat to blow off the club.
RAB-3 deputy commander Major Muhammad Khairul Amin, who led the operation, told reporters that an anonymous caller had said that the press club would be blown off at about 12:30pm. "That's why the emergency search was conducted at the order of the higher authority," he said.
During the operation, the elite force cordoned off the press club and halted vehicular movement in front of it forcing a number of public transports to take alternative roads causing untold sufferings to the passengers.
National Press Club Joint General Secretary Rawnak Hossain Ronu told reporters that they knew nothing about the bomb threat. The RAB men came and informed them that they would search for explosives at the club, he added.
"We just cooperated with them, but no such explosive was found here. The threat might have been made to create panic," he added.
Two discussions were interrupted at the club as the RAB men searched the rooms with dogs after evacuating the participants of both the programmes.
Press Club treasurer Syed Abdal Ahmed said no scheduled programmes were suspended due to the bomb threat.
