SS Steel's Q1 profit doubles on subsidiaries
Despite prevailing economic challenges, SS Steel Ltd. displayed a remarkable performance by doubling its profits year-on-year in the first quarter of this financial year, driven by increased earnings of its subsidiaries. The listed steel manufacturer reported a consolidated profit of Tk 6.30 million for the July-September period of FY'24, a significant increase from Tk 3.15 million in the same quarter of the previous year. Tamim reluctant to sign for BCB's central deal
Opener Tamim Iqbal has requested the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to exclude him from the board's central contract list, further refuelling the rumour that he wants to end his international career. Bombs rain on northern Gaza
Israel bombed areas of Jabalia in the northern Gaza Strip overnight, with fighting throughout Sunday morning, residents and Palestinian media said, as Gaza health authorities and the Israeli military both announced mounting death tolls. Israel says it has achieved almost complete operational control over northern Gaza and is preparing to expand a ground offensive against Hamas militants to other areas. Page 17
Japan to release 3rd tranche of $540m
Japan will provide a third tranche of 76,635 million yen or approximately $540 million for the third terminal at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport the construction of which already reached 90 per cent. With this, the Japanese loan for it stood at 324,191 million yen. Page 20
