The market rebounded strongly Monday, snapping an eight-day slump, as bargain hunters put fresh bets on stocks, riding on the government's moves to revamp the ailing market. Market insiders said the stock market regulator and the finance ministry took a number of initiatives to increase fund flow in the stock market which helped the market bounce back. Page 9
Russian forces step up shelling
Russian forces have stepped up shelling in Ukraine's eastern industrial heartland as they press their offensive in the region that is now the focus of fighting in the 3-month-old war. Meanwhile, a Ukrainian court is expected to sentence a Russian soldier on Monday in the first war crimes trial of the conflict. The 21-year-old sergeant, who has pleaded guilty to shooting a Ukrainian man in the early days of the war, could get life in prison. Page 17

The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) has stressed the need for developing the country's tourism sector, in a bid to attain the sustainable development goals (SDGs). It also called upon the government to treat the country's tourism as a priority sector. Page 14
CAB bats for separate div in ministry
The Consumer Association of Bangladesh (CAB) demands a separate division within commerce ministry to protect consumer rights. The CAB claims that it is not possible to ensure rights as the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) is not enough for the purpose. The demand was made during a webinar styled 'Consumers are victims of exorbitant profits and fraud: traders don't care obey law' hosted by CAB on Monday. Page 20
