Stocks extend gaining streak
Dhaka stocks on Monday closed marginally higher extending the gaining streak for third consecutive session as major sectors performed mixed. On the day, large cap companies including Grameenphone lost prices marginally on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) which saw day-long choppy trading following investors' cautious stance. Dhaka bourse opened the day's session positively but soon later the DSE broad index DSEX declined for a while. Page 9
Russian troops enter key city in Donbas
Russian troops entered the outskirts of the Ukrainian city of Sievierodonetsk, a regional governor said on Monday, describing the fighting as "very fierce" in a city that become a key objective for Moscow's offensive in the Donbas. Shelling killed two civilians and wounded five others as Russian troops advanced into the city's southeastern and northeastern areas fringes, Luhansk region Governor Serhiy Gaidai said. Page 17
Oil climbs above $120 a barrel
Oil prices climbed above $120 a barrel on Monday, hitting their highest in more than two months, as traders waited to see whether a European Union meeting would reach an agreement on banning Russian oil imports. The Brent crude futures contract for July, which will expire on Tuesday, was up 59 cents, or 0.5 per cent, at $120.02 a barrel at 1100 GMT. Page 19
