Parliament sits for budget session at 3:00pm on June 7 to consider and pass the new government's first budget that is forecast to be expansionary to finance its newer programmes on development and social protections.
The President has summoned the second, or budget session of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad as per constitutional provisions, according to an official notification issued Thursday.
The session will be held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka, under provision of "Article 72(1) of the Constitution of the People's Republic of Bangladesh", it says.
Parliament in its upcoming sitting is primarily meant to complete the process of placing and passing the national budget for the fiscal year 2026-27, besides transacting legislative business.
As presumed in relevant official meetings, the next budget size could be around Tk 9.3 trillion.
Regarding the session, a notification, signed by Secretary of the Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat Barrister Mohammad Golam Sarwar Bhuiyan, was issued.
Following the presidential order, the parliament secretariat has begun taking "all necessary preparations to ensure smooth conduct of the session".
