CA didn't say interim govt's tenure will be four years

Says Press Secy

FE REPORT | November 19, 2024 00:00:00

Chief Adviser (CA) Prof Dr Mohammad Yunus did not say that the tenure of interim government will be four years, said Shafiqul Alam, press secretary to the CA, on Monday, alleging that a section of the media has wrongly presented the CA's this part of the statement made during an interview with Al Jazeera. He said the country's political parties will decide whether secularism will be excluded or not from the Constitution.

The Attorney General (AG) recently opined in favour of excluding secularism from the Constitution, arguing that 90 per cent of the people of the country are Muslim and they do not want secularism in the Constitution.

"The government has formed a commission to reform the Constitution. It will submit report after consultations with the stakeholders. The government will hold dialogues with all the political parties. Decisions regarding bringing any change to the Constitution will be finalised on the basis of the consensus of the political parties," said Mr Alam when asked to comment on the AG's view.

He was speaking at a press briefing in the city flanked by his deputies -- Azad Mazumder and Apurba Jahangir.

The CA's press secretary said prices of essentials are coming down due to the government's relentless efforts, and these would decrease further.

About demonstration of the Titumir College students in the city, he said all should exercise patience, as it required time to resolve all the problems.

Responding to a criticism that some pro-Awami League persons have been included as members in the mass-media reform commission, he observed that the members are picked by the commission head.

The (commission) members are all career journalists, and their selection (process) was broad-based, he noted.
