Cabinet extends FFs' service age

The Cabinet Monday approved the Public Servants (Amendment) Bill 2009 extending the service age of freedom fighters (FFs) by two years from 57 to 59, report agencies.
The Cabinet has approved the holiday list for 2010 including March 17, the birthday of independence hero Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The ruling Awami League in its previous term observed March 17 as 'national children's day'.
Chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the Cabinet meeting held at the Secretariat, however, returned a proposal for the appointment of a Permanent Representative for UN Office for project services in Dhaka.
The meeting also approved the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council Act 1980 (Amendment), Fishery Hatchery Bill 2009 and the EPZ Workers Welfare Sangha and Industrial Relation (Amendment) Bill 2009.
It also approved a proposal for appointing the upazila vice-chairman as adviser to the Upazila Coordination Committee on temporary programme to involve the youths, both male and female, in nation-building activities.
Briefing reporters, PM's press secretary Abul Kalam Azad said the Cabinet thanked the Prime Minister for receiving the Indira Gandhi Peace Prize for her contribution to the establishment of peace and uplifting the condition of the people.
The Cabinet expressed satisfaction over the Supreme Court verdict in the Bangabandhu Murder Case and observed that execution of the verdict could end the politics of killing in this country forever.
