President of US Jurist Association, Canada chapter William Sloan arrived in the city early Saturday on a week-long visit to discuss legal matters relating to the cases filed against detained ex-Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Human rights (HR) lawyer Sloan will also observe the human rights situation in Bangladesh.
Sloan will leave Dhaka for Canada February 23. He arrived here within weeks of Canadian lawyer Payam Makhavan's visit.
Makhavan, who left Dhaka on February 01, had met Hasina at the trial court and her lawyers discussing the cases filed against her.
Before his departure, Makhavan called for immediate release of Hasina arguing that there is no legal basis of those cases.
Another report adds: Hasina is not agreeing to be treated in any hospital in the country as she fears attempts on her life, her doctor said Saturday.
Hasina wants treatment abroad, her personal physician ABM Abdullah told bdnews24.com after examining the former prime minister on the day.
Abdullah visited Hasina in the special jail, set up on the Sangsad Bhaban premises, by request of prison authorities.
He said he spent almost two hours from 10 am examining Hasina's physical condition.
Asked when Hasina would be shifted to a hospital, the doctor said: "She is afraid of taking treatment in any hospital here."
Proper treatment for her ear complaint is not possible in the country, he added.
Asked why the AL president was afraid of taking treatment in any hospital in the country, he replied: "She is afraid of an attempt on her life."
On Hasina's ailments, Abdullah said: "She is suffering from allergies. She is still very weak."
"However, her blood pressure is now under control to some extent. She had a good sleep last night."
The personal physician said that during his visit Saturday, unlike on previous occasions, neither the inspector general nor deputy inspector general of prisons was present.
