The Chief Advisor's Office has asked the Election Commission to complete preparations for holding the parliamentary polls in February, before the start of Ramadan next year, reports bdnews24.com.
The letter was issued on Wednesday, a day after Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus announced the election timeline.
Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin has already hinted that the official schedule could be announced in the second half of December.
AMM Nasir Uddin has said the election schedule would be announced two months ahead of the polling date.
Speaking at his office in Nirbachon Bhaban in Dhaka's Agargaon on Wednesday, Nasir said: "We are making preparations in advance. Despite several challenges surrounding the February election, our preparations are moving forward.
"The schedule will be announced two months before the date of the polls," he said.
The chief advisor addressed the nation on Tuesday to mark the first anniversary of the July Uprising and spoke about the upcoming election.
"After addressing you [public] on this great day, we will enter our last and most important chapter. We will now begin the process of handing over responsibility to an elected government," the chief advisor said in his televised remarks.
"On behalf of the interim government, I will send a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner, so that the Election Commission organises the national elections before the next Ramadan, in February 2026," he added.
In a previous address to the nation in June, the chief advisor had indicated that the election would be held in the first half of April 2026.
However, after a meeting with Tarique Rahman in London on Jun 13, a joint declaration suggested the elections could take place before Ramadan in February, if preparations were complete.
