The special tribunal, formed to resolve the capital market-related cases, is set to start functioning in early January, 2015.
A top official of the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) said this Wednesday.
"The setup of the tribunal is almost completed. We hope the appointed judge will be able to start its functions early next month."
He said the functions of the special tribunal will be conducted under the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) 1898.
The securities regulator earlier rented a floor at the Bangladesh House Building Finance Corporation (BHBFC) head-office building in the capital's Purana Paltan area to set up the tribunal.
In late 2012, the Securities and Exchange Ordinance (SEO) 1969 was amended in the Parliament to include a provision for setting up special tribunal(s) to resolve the capital market-related cases.
Following the amendment the government issued a gazette notification to form the special tribunal on January 2, 2014. On February 24, the government appointed District Judge Humayun Kabir as the judge of the tribunal. He submitted his joining letter to the securities regulator on March 16.
