City petrol pumps continue witnessing long queues

Most of the petrol pumps across the capital city witnessed long queues on Sunday like previous days as motorists rushed to stock up on fuel.
Despite having repeated government assurances that there is adequate oil in stock, the panic shows no sign of easing.
Motorcyclists and car drivers were seen waiting for more than two hours under the intense heat to reach the fuel nozzles.
Rising global tensions involving the United States, Israel and Iran have triggered fears of a potential supply disruption.
Key streets in Tejgaon, Bijoy Sarani and Paribagh remained clogged with vehicles almost throughout the day.
At the Meghna Filling Station in the city's Paribagh area, the queue of motorcycles and private cars had stretched far onto the main road by 8:00am, with many waiting for more than two hours in the scorching sun.
A similar scene was observed at Ramna Petrol Pump in the Matsya Bhaban area on Sunday afternoon, with the line of motorcycles and private cars extending nearly one kilometer -- from Segunbagicha Road and Matsya Bhaban. And the tail end of the queue reached the gates of the Public Works Department (PWD). Drivers said it could take at least two to two-and-a-half hours to navigate the line.
It was found that ropes had been set up to create separate lanes from the front of the PWD building to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for controlled entry into the pump.
Two motorcycles and a private car were allowed to enter the pumps at a time. Each motorcycle was allowed to take fuel worth up to Tk 500.
Any attempts by some individuals to cut into the line led to heated arguments with those waiting. Members of the law-enforcing agencies were deployed to maintain order and ensure security at the petrol pump premises.
