Closure of educational institutions under study

The communication ministry has taken a number of decisions, including closure of educational institutions, in a bid to solve the city's unbearable traffic jam that has broken all previous records with the advent of Ramadan month.
The city road transportation system has remained virtually collapsed over the past few days much to the woes of the people, particularly the school children and the aged.
Official sources said communication minister Syed Abul Hossain has already sent separate letters to the home and education ministries on Monday and requested to take necessary steps to arrange police reinforcement and close down educational institutions soon.
They said apart from these, the ministry has decided to withdraw from the streets the vehicles aged more than 20 years and ensure that traffic rules and regulations are enforced through raising the number mobile courts to 20.
Currently, four mobile courts have been working on the streets.
The letter sent to the home ministry contains the request to take necessary steps regarding deployment of police including armed police as an additional force to existing traffic police and help the magistrate led mobile courts to reinforce the traffic rules that have been violated, the officials added.
"The number of mobile courts will be increased to 20," said personal secretary of the minister Shah Mohammad Aminul Haque adding that it has been done to withdraw unauthorised and illegally plying vehicles from the streets.
He said the ministry also decided to stop registration of three-wheeler CNG vehicles for unlimited period.
Convenor of the high-level ministry committee Shah Alam Mehedi told FE that as the number of mobile courts had been increased to 20, additional police will also be necessary to stop plying of illegal and old vehicles.
They will also work for stopping indiscriminate parking of vehicles.
Apart from these moves, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police also conducted drive titled operation clean street in the city.
