The Land Ministry is moving to introduce a fully "Computerised Land Management System" at all the upazila (UZ) A.C. (Land) offices in the country to digitally track down and update all land related data and records through easy access.
The mega initiative, a pilot project of which has been implemented at Demra thana of the city, is intended to eliminate the existing complication and bring transparency in land management, a ministry official said.
By the year 2014, it is aiming to cover five upazilas of Dhaka district -- Nababganj, Dohar, Keraniganj, Savar and Dhamrai -- under this initiative, Salim Khan, senior assistant secretary of DLRS Office of the Land Ministry, told reporters at an orientation programme of journalists on 'Digital Bangladesh' in the city Wednesday.
The 'Access to Information (A2I)' project under the Prime Minister's Office organised the orientation programme.
"The necessary steps would include scanning and digitising of all 'mouza' maps and 'khatians,' converting them into GIS system and preserving them in database as well as auto updating of these land records," Salim said.
"At the same time, this database would be made web-based and viewable and retrievable from front end at user's interface and deployed into all concerned A.C. (Land) offices and DC Offices," he added.
Citing the success of the pilot project at Demra, it was disclosed that during the previous year, the government's land revenue earning from the upazila had increased from Tk 10 million to Tk. 600 million after the computerised system was implemented.
Director of Management Information System of Health Ministry Abul Kalam Azad said that by the next year, telemedicine healthcare facilities would be introduced in 18000 community clinics in the country.
It has also been disclosed that steps have been taken to set up Union Information Centre at every union in the country in public-private partnership. Already 30 such union information centres have started working experimentally where information about agriculture and health, computer-related services and various government forms, circulars, voter list and VGF cards will be available.
Assistant Country Director of United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Bangladesh KAM Morshed, Policy Adviser of A2I Anir Chowdhury and consultant of the project Manik Mahmud also spoke on the occasion.
