Conspiracies on to destabilise country: Prime Minister

Prime Minister (PM) and Awami League (AL) President Sheikh Hasina Saturday said conspiracies have been going on to destabilise the country and tarnish the image of a popular government which was voted to power through a landslide victory in the December 29 parliamentary elections, report BSS and UNB.
She made this remark while presiding over a general meeting of the Awami League Working Committee at the party chief's Dhanmondi residence in the city.
Briefing reporters after the four-hour meeting beginning at 10:00 am, AL Joint Secretary Obaidul Quader quoting Sheikh Hasina said the February 25 carnage at the BDR headquarters was a deep-rooted conspiracy and those who were involved in the incident are still active to carry out similar or more dangerous incident as their evil design is yet to be fulfilled.
Referring to various steps taken by the present government for the welfare of the country as well as the people, she said, "We have brought prices of essentials like rice, pulses and edible oil at a tolerable level and taken initiatives to solve the water and electricity problems as soon as possible."
Sheikh Hasina directed the party leaders and workers to remain alert as the vested quarters are trying to divert the BDR incident to other directions.
She urged her party leaders to win the hearts of the people through their good behaviour and work seriously to fulfill the expectations of the people who reelected them to power.
She also underscored the need for united efforts between the government and the party to build Digital Bangladesh and make the `Vision 2021' programmes a success.
About holding of the party's central council, Quader said the meeting has formed a sub-committee to update the party constitution and make a time-befitting party declaration.
Party Chief Sheikh Hasina was unanimously elected as the chairman of the sub-committee, while presidium member Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury made its co-chairman. Nuh-ul-Alam Lenin will act as its member secretary.
Asked about the council of the party, he said it would be held soon and before that the party constitution and manifesto are needed to be updated.
Kader said the party central leaders will also undertake district tours shortly and discuss with district and upazila leaders to know the organisational problems and how to overcome those.
Quader also said the meeting has finalised the programmes of Pahela Baishakh on April 14 and the historic Mujibnagar Day on April 17.
Quader said Awami League will bring out a colourful procession in the city on the occasion of Pahela Baishakh. The procession will start at 6-30 am from Bahadur Shah Park and end at Bangabandhu Avenue, he said.
The Mujibnagar Day progarammes, he said, include hoisting of national and party flags at Bangabandhu Bhaban, central office and district offices of the party at 6:00 am, placing wreaths at the portrait of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Bangabandhu Bhaban at 7:00 am, laying wreaths at the mazars of four national leaders---Syed Nazrul Islam, Tajuddin Ahmed and Captain Mansur Ali at Banani in Dhaka and AHM Qamaruzzaman---in Rajshahi at 7:15 am.
A discussion will be held at Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre at 3:00 pm. Party President Sheikh Hasina will chair the discussion.
Besides, programmes have been chalked out to observe the day at the historic Mujibnagar in Meherpur in a befitting manner.
The programmes are raising national and party flags there at 10:00 am, placing wreaths at the memorial at 10:15 am, guard of honour at 10:30 am and discussion at Sheikh Hasina Mancha on highlighting the significance of the day at 11:00 am.
AL Presidium members Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury, Amir Hossain Amu, Abdur Razzak, Tofail Ahmed, Suranjit Sengupta and Begum Matia Chowdhury, Organising Secretary Abdul Mannan and central leaders Professor Abu Sayeed, Talukadr Abdul Khaleque, Mirza Sultan Raza and Begum Munnujan Sufian will take part in the programmes at Mujibnagar.
