Bangladesh Tuesday reported 16 more deaths, including 14 from Dhaka, in the Aedes-borne dengue fever.
A record 2,418 new cases were also registered across the country the same day.
With the latest figures, the total fatalities climbed to 201, including Dhaka's 162, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Besides, the new dengue cases were hospitalised countrywide in the last 24 hours ending at 8:00 am on Tuesday. Of them, 1,162 were from Dhaka.
SM Nazia Sultana, a senior assistant secretary of commerce ministry, also died of dengue at BIRDEM Hospital on Tuesday.
Ms Nazia, who was eight months pregnant, was admitted to the hospital two days ago.
Commerce minister Tipu Munshi and senior secretary Tapan Kanti Ghosh expressed deep condolences over the death of the 30th-BCS cadre, according to a press release of the ministry.
Meanwhile, the total dengue cases rose to 37,688. Of them, 22,349 were from Dhaka, disclosed the DGHS.
A total of 7,927 people are currently being treated at hospitals across the country. Of them, 4,646 were from Dhaka.
Of the total admitted, 29,560 patients made recovery and returned home, including Dhaka's 17,541.
Last year, 281 people died due to dengue, the highest in the history of the country.
However, the number of deaths may increase as dengue has taken a terrible turn, experts fear.
They apprehend that the situation will worsen in August and September compared to July as the rainy season came late this year.
