Covid-19 cases cross 0.35m

With 1,705 more new cases, the number of coronavirus infections crossed 0.35 million mark in the country on Monday, according to Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Now the total number of confirmed cases rose to 350,621 and Bangladesh is the 15thcountry in the world that reached this grim landmark.
On the other hand, the toll from coronavirus is nearing 5,000with 40 more deaths in the last 24 hours ending at 8:00am on Monday.
In terms of fatalities, Bangladesh became the seventh-worst country in Asia after India, Iran, Indonesia, Iraq, Pakistan and the Philippines.
Due to a rise in deaths, the fatality rate increased to 1.42 per cent among confirmed cases.
Although the number of infections kept falling in recent weeks, the rate is still above danger level, according to healthcare professionals.
The vacancy in dedicated hospitals keeps widening gradually as more than 80 per cent of the hospital beds remained empty.
According to the DGHS data, there were 13,618 dedicated beds for coronavirus patients across the country to date but only 2,875 of them were occupied by the patients.
The health bulletin on coronavirus issued by DGHS on Monday said a total of 13,053 samples were tested across the country since yesterday noon.
With the latest tests, some 1,834,323 samples have so far been tested in the country and the infection rate stood at 19.11 per cent.
Of the tests, some 1,705 samples were found Covid-19 positive across the country during the 24-hour period, it mentioned.
Now the overall tally of confirmed cases and deaths rose to 350,621 and 4,979 respectively.
Of the total, 49.19 per cent of the fatalities was recorded in Dhaka division, followed by Chattogram (20.79 per cent), Khulna (8.38 per cent), Rajshahi (6.65 per cent), Rangpur (4.70 per cent), Sylhet (4.44 per cent), Barishal (3.72 per cent) and Mymensingh (2.15 per cent), it said.
At the same time, the DGHS data also mentioned that 2,152 patients recovered, taking the entire tally of recovery to 258,717. The recovery rate rose to 73.79 per cent.
Globally, over 31.2 million people have been infected with the novel coronavirus and 965,654 have died until Monday 6:30 pm, according to Worldometer info on coronavirus.
