Covid-19 claims 32 more lives 20-09-2020

Thirty-two more people died fromCovid-19 and 1,567 were infected with the novel coronavirus afresh in the country during the 24-hour period ending at 8:00am on Saturday.

With new deaths, the toll climbed to 4,913, according to a statement issued by Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The statement said the total number of patients infected with the coronavirus rose to 347,372 since March this year.

The overall fatality rate was 1.41 per cent while the detection rate 19.20 per cent and the recovery rate was 73.23 per cent.

DGHS said 95 Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) laboratories across the country conducted 13,170 tests during the period which took the total tally to 1,809,679.

Of the deceased, 25 were male and 7 were female while most of them or 22 died in Dhaka division, four in Mymensingh, two in Khulna and one each in Chattogram, Barishal, Sylhet and Rangpur divisions.

One of them was between 11-20 years, one between21-30, one between31-40, four between41-50, eight between 51-60 and 17 people were over 60 years old.

All of them died at healthcare facilities, said the statement signed by DGHS additional director general Dr Nasiam Sultana.

During the reporting period, a total of 2,051 people recovered from the disease.

Newly 718 people were put into quarantine and 312 into isolation in a bid to stem the spread of coronavirus further that was first detected in the country on` March 8 and the first fatality was reported on March 18.

Some 3,799 people received telemedicine services during the 24-hour period, the DGHS said quoting reference from its Management Information System.

Bangladesh is now 3rdworst corona-hit country in Asia after India and Iran and 15th globally in terms of positive case figures.

In the global tally, Bangladesh is following the United Kingdom that reported 385,936 cases and 41,732 fatalities.

According to information portal Worldometer, over 30.72 million people have been infected with the deadly virus and 0.356 million lost their lives.
