Covid claims six more lives

The country recorded six more deaths from Covid-19 with 1,105 new cases in the last 24 hours till Saturday morning as the upward trend of the infection rate continued.

With the new cases, the total caseload reached 1,976,787 the number of deaths reached about 29,160, according to the daily update by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

However, the positivity rate of the Covid infection fell to 13.22 per cent from Friday's 15.31 per cent.

A total of 8,177 samples were tested in the last 24-hour period compared to Friday's 12,389, DGHS data showed.

On Friday, Bangladesh recorded 1,897 new cases along with five deaths while the death toll on June 30, 29 and 28 was 4, 3, and 2 respectively.

Of the six deceased, three were men and three women. Three of them were from the Dhaka division, two from Chattogram and one from Mymensingh division, according to the DGHS database.

The mortality rate remained static at 1.48 per cent while the overall recovery rate decreased to 96.52 per cent.

A total of 233 people recovered from the deadly viral disease in the 24 hours and it took the overall number of recovery to 1,907,990.

In June, the country reported a total of 18 deaths from the viral infection while fresh cases reached 20,201.
