Covid toll at 35, infections fall to 6.54pc

Covid-19 test positivity rate dropped below 7.0 per cent in Bangladesh on Tuesday after a few months despite showing an upward trend in the number of daily virus cases.

On the other hand, the daily death toll from Covid-19 during the last 24 hours until 8:00 am on the day was reported at 35 from the previous day's 41, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The DGHS reported the Covid-19 infection rate at 6.54 per cent on the day, against the previous day's 7.69 per cent.

However, the daily Covid-19 cases increased to 2,074 on Tuesday, compared to that of 1,953 on Monday.

With the latest daily counts on Tuesday, total fatalities from coronavirus surpassed 27,000-mark to reach 27,007 in Bangladesh, since the virus was first detected in the country in March 2020, said a DGHS press release.

According to the DGHS data, a total of 31,724 samples were tested, including antigen-based rapid tests, while some 32,212 samples were collected across the country during the last 24-hour reporting time.

A total of 3,735 people recovered from Covid-19 infection during the mentioned period. The rate of recovery from the disease remained almost unchanged at 96.89 per cent, the release revealed.

The total Covid-19 cases crossed 1.53 million in Bangladesh since March last year, and more than 1.48 million of them recovered from the deadly disease.

Over 9.30 million samples were tested across the country, the DGHS figures showed.
